Powerflushing - Heating System Cleaning Specialists
Powerflushing Service for Central Heating Systems

The Need for Powerflushing
Older central heating systems have often been installed without the addition of specially manufactured chemicals which slow down the action of "corrosion" within the boiler, pipe work and radiators (these chemicals are known as corrosion inhibitors)and often, even those which have had these chemicals added are no longer protected because the owners are unaware that the chemicals require replenishing, usually on a five yearly basis.
All heating systems suffer from corrosion in the form of rusting of the iron components such as boiler heat exchangers and steel radiators, which is caused by the oxygenation of the water entering the system during the process of initial filling and thereafter, in open-vented systems, the water is re-oxygenated by absorbtion, as it comes into contact with the air in the header or cold feed & expansion tank and in the vent but what is less often appreciated is that heating systems are like large batteries and because the contain dis-similar metals, the are liable to electrolytic and galvanic action, which can, for example leech the zinc form brass fittings, causing these to disintegrate over time and can cause the production of both hydrogen and sulphur with the heating system all of whoich can eventually terminally damage the system.
The processes identified above often combine to cause a substance known as magnetite. This substance manifests itself as black sludge within the system ,which if not treated, will eventually cause blockages and will certainly reduce the efficiency, effectiveness and performance of the heating system and which can be extremely expensive to remove.
We use a commercial pumping unit coneected to a reservoir which can be filled with water and other specially manufactured chemicals whichare designed to remove the magnetite from heating systems in a process which can take form 1 to 3 days depending on the extent of the problem and the size of property. On completion of the cleaning works, we add corrosion inhibitors and other chemicals such as noise reducers to ensure no further problems occur.
Prices for this services range from around £600 to £1400, again depending on the size of property and the extent of the property.
To-date we have a 100% success rate in undertaking these works and all the customers who have had this work undertaken have reported immense improvements to the operation of their systems.
